Zebra TLP2844 Printing Blank Labels

Is your Zebra TLP2844 Printing Blank Labels? Loaded up with media, calibrated, ready to print but spits out blank labels? This can happen at times but with a couple troubleshooting tips we might be able to get you fixed up right now!

TLP2844 printers can operate in either thermal transfer (needs ribbon and labels) or direct thermal (only needs labels) modes. Not utilizing the proper media is the most common issue with desktop printers. Having a roll of thermal transfer labels without ribbon will produce a blank label. The printer will go through the actions as if there were no issues but there will be no image on the label. If your ribbon is loaded backwards the printer will, again, go through all the actions but not produce an image. A quick way to check if your ribbon is loaded correctly is to take a label and peel it off from the roll. Use the sticky part and apply it to the ribbon and then peel it off. The side that pulls off ink should physically come into contact with the label at the printhead. Having the darkness turned down too far and having the speed increased too much will produce a label that appears to not have an image or might be very faint.

Ensure your TLP2844 has the correct media installed. Direct thermal labels only require heat to create an image. A trick we use at BCTP is to take your fingernail and scratch it across the surface of the label really fast – does it create black marks on the label? If so, you have a direct thermal label loaded in your printer and don’t require ribbon to produce an image.
