Repair, refurbished equipment, sourcing, and support for businesses that depend on barcode technology every day.
The two most common LS4278 issues both come down to the scanner losing its wireless connection with its charging base — here's how to fix both.
Scanner Beeps Three Times and Won't Transmit Data
Three beeps on scan, with no data reaching your system, almost always means the scanner has lost its pairing connection with the base. Make sure the scanner is charged, then scan the pairing barcode printed on the top or bottom of the LS4278 base. Wait a few seconds — you should hear a single confirmation beep once it re-pairs successfully.
Scanner Reads the Barcode But Data Never Transmits
Re-pair the scanner to its base the same way as above. If that doesn't resolve it, check the internal battery — a low or aging battery is a common secondary cause. If the scanner is configured for USB HID mode, reprogramming it with the correct USB configuration barcode can also fix this.
Still Having Issues?
If re-pairing and a battery check don't resolve the problem, the scan engine or internal electronics may need hands-on evaluation. BCTP can inspect and repair LS4278 units, or help source a certified refurbished replacement.
LS4278 Repair FAQs
Common Questions
Why does my LS4278 scanner beep three times and not transmit data?
This usually means the scanner has lost its pairing connection with its base. Make sure the scanner is charged, then scan the pairing barcode located on the top or bottom of the LS4278 base. You should hear a single confirmation beep once it's paired again.
My LS4278 scans a barcode but the data never transmits — what's wrong?
This is typically a pairing or battery issue. Re-pair the scanner to its base the same way as the three-beep error, and check whether the battery is low or aging. If the scanner is set up for USB HID mode, reprogramming it with the correct USB configuration barcode can also resolve this.
