Zebra 105SL Ribbon Sensor Troubleshooting Guide
The Zebra 105SL ribbon sensor detects ribbon presence and movement during thermal transfer printing. When it fails or becomes dirty, the printer may stop, misprint, or show ribbon errors.
Signs of Ribbon Sensor Problems
- Ribbon out error with ribbon installed.
- Intermittent printing.
- Gaps in printed labels.
- Printer stops mid-print.
- Calibration failures.
Ribbon Sensor Cleaning Procedure
Turn off the printer and open the printhead assembly. Inspect the ribbon sensor for wax buildup, dust, or label adhesive. Carefully clean the sensor using compressed air or 99% isopropyl alcohol.
When the Sensor Must Be Replaced
If the sensor beam or receiver is damaged, cleaning will not solve the issue. Replacement may be required.
